The recent TF2 update news includes the following line:
Added Bill’s Hat for players who pre-purchase Left 4 Dead 2
Yep, you heard it! Team Fortress 2 players, rejoice! Those who pre-ordered Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam will gain Bill’s Veteran’s Beret for use with their characters! For many, this may even wipe away the sour aftertaste from Valve’s controversial introduction of the halo as a censure for those using idling programs.
What’s even better, some characters’ taunts change to a part of the Thriller dance when wearing the hat! Check it out!
Players should receive the hat after updating Steam. We’re not sure at the moment if those who pre-ordered from GameStop, Amazon, or other retailers will also receive the bonus.
EDIT: It appears that the taunt changes are temporary, in honor of Halloween. Enjoy the coincidence while you can, LADIES!

Updates have been released for the Left 4 Dead 2 pre-release demo!

Updates to Left 4 Dead 2 Demo have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:
Left 4 Dead 2 Demo
- Fixed bug that caused dedicated servers to become unjoinable over time without a restart or heartbeat update
- Fixed exploit that allowed players to end a campaign and return to the lobby without a vote
- Public players are no longer matched to lobbies that are idle for a prolonged period of time. These lobbies become “Friends-only” lobbies
- LAN servers list will now show listen server single player games as not joinable and will show game type as “single player” too
The demo also prevents players from using cheats on local games.

28 hours overdue, the pre-release demo for Left 4 Dead 2 has finally been released! It includes the first two chapters of The Parish.

Today, the “early demo” of Left 4 Dead 2 will be released on Steam and XBox 360 for those who pre-ordered. It was scheduled to be released at 1 PM PST, but since we all eat, drink, and sleep on Valve Time, the reality is that players will get it when they get it.

EDIT (10/27): There’s a rumor going about that the Steam (PC) version of the demo has been delayed for 10 hours.
